Dear Anissa,
I’ve always wanted to sew with satin and velvet, but I’m terrified I’ll ruin the fabric. Any beginner-friendly advice?

Dear Nervous,
The secret is to treat luxury fabrics like royalty — handle with respect and patience. Use a new needle (sharp size 9 or 11), a walking foot if you have one, and don’t fight the fabric. Let it glide. Also — practice on scraps first. Courage isn’t never messing up; it’s messing up beautifully.
Every stitch is a lesson in grace. You’re not just making something pretty — you’re practicing patience. And that may be the most important project of all.
I have some very beginner tips located here if you are interested!
