Ask Anissa: Do we have to keep all the fonts on our computer?

Question: I was trying to clean up files on my computer and found that there are a lot of fonts that I don't use on a regular basis, do I have to keep them?

Answer: The answer is probably Yes. There are a lot of fonts that come with our computers that have to be kept in order for programs to work properly or for certain aspects of a program to look correctly when viewed. As a scrapbooker, I have found that if I keep the fonts that I purchase in one folder and the ones that come standard with programs or with the computer, right where they are, I can determine if I want to save or clean out my font files. One thing I do suggest is that if you are wanting to clean up font files, always write them to a cd just in case you find a need for them later on. Not too long ago, I wrote an article on this subject, visit Scrap-n-Craft.com for a complete (as of the writing, and as far as my research took me, always check with the software developer or software program info for more information) list of fonts that should be kept no matter what!

Ask Anissa: I need help with Journaling our upcoming vacation.

Question: I am going on vacation in February, and I wanted to jot down ideas, funny stories, places we have been and other things that may happen on our vacation. Do you have any suggestions on how I can accomplish this goal and possibly also make transferring this info into our travel album easier? Rachael J., Long Beach, CA

Answer: Take some acid & lignin free white 3 x 5 cards along to record events, stories, dates, notes, captions and the names of people and places that you have visited while on your vacation. When you get home you can use the cards as a reference for journaling or you can mat them and include them in your album.

Question: I am a traditional scrapbooker, but have thought that it would be helpful to use some  for my layouts and for cards.  I have seen a lot of software at scrapbooking shows, but, I don't know which one is best.  Is there a place to find out which is best?  Robyn M., Salinas, CA

Answer: Robyn, I have purchased digital software at shows and I have sat through countless presentations and done some research of my own.  What I have found is that buying digital scrapbooking software is the same as buying a computer.  It all depends on what features you are looking for.  If you are wanting to use digital software for adding to traditional layouts, then it might be wise to find a software that is easy enough to learn and that you can use with programs you already have on your computer.  There are a few things to consider before you purchase: Ease of Use, A Variety of Scrapbooking Images, Ability to Import Scrapbooking, Edit Scrapbooking, Share Scrapbooking, and the ability to Organize Scrapbooking Resources.  If you are wanting to learn more about digital scrapbooking as a way of creating your layouts, then it would be wise to sit in on a class from your local scrapbooking store or at the next retreat or expo.  Most of these digital scrapbooking manufacturers have information online that you can read also.  Below are a few links to the digital software programs that I know of and a link to an online review that I found.
