Ask Anissa: How to Stop my Dogs from Digging?

AskAnissa: Our dogs are very important to our family. Even though they are animals we treat them like our family member and all the things they need are well-provided by us. We even buy them small clothes to wear and buy the top of the line dog food. We all wanted to see them play tricks but today, our dogs dig a lot and they are ruining our backyard. What should we do? - Anonymous

Answer: As we all know, dogs are man's best friend so taking of them is just like taking good care of your family members and friends. Dogs convey so much joy in our lives but sometimes if they dig a lot, they can be distractive that could probably destroy your lawn or vegetable gardens if you have one. Extreme digging caused by your dogs could be very irritating and may sometimes result to some changes in an owner-dog relationship. Dogs in so many ways are friendly but there are times when these pets are anxious, they'll be likely to cause problems in your household. Dogs should be taught and trained. They should be in-touch with their owners in order to let them feel that what they're doing is incorrect and improper.

Dogs need to have physical and mental exercise. These dogs are like kids and they love to play and do some tricks too. Even though they are pets, they shouldn't be deprived of their right to enjoy and mingle with other pups too. When they did something good, reward them like giving them food and when they do bad, don't kick them but comfort them. They have a strong sense and they could understand their master's touch.
No doubt, dogs love bones. These bones are being buried for some reasons, maybe to save it for another day or for the other dogs not to eat it. If you have observed this kind of situation then don't give them bones rather substitute with chomping toys.

When the family is not at home, confine him in a crate or in his dog house. It is very important to teach your dogs on how to behave and not to spoil them whenever they want to do something harmful.

Ask Anissa: Can You Suggest A Good Handmade Baby Shower Gift?

AskAnissa: My sister will be having her baby soon and we are all excited to welcome her in this world. We have already shopped for baby supplies like cribs, baby bottles and infant clothes but still we would like to give her a personalized item that she could use. What can you suggest? - Anonymous

Answer: Have you seen a hooded towel in the stores? If yes, I'll teach you how to do it. It may take some time but I guarantee it's the cutest personalized gift you can give your niece. Let me call this project a Hooded Ducky Bath Towel. These towels are super easy to make, needing only some degree of sewing know-how. And they can be great presents for baby showers and birthdays too.

Hooded Baby TowelWhat we will need:

One large yellow bath towel
One yellow hand towel
Felt cloth for the duck's beak and letters
Polyester fiber filling
Scissors, pins, sewing machine
Double sided tape

Since we are giving this as a gift, we prefer to have the towels in brand new condition to avoid causing rashes on the baby's skin. First, we have to cut the hand towel in half horizontally. Then lay out the large bath towel on the floor and center one of the cut pieces of hand towel on top of the bath towel. Followed by the putting of the cut side up, so that the sewn end in the one is being sewn to the large bath towel, through which you don't have to fold over the edge anymore. Pin the cut hand towel to the large towel and sew in place. Fold the hood together in half then sew it together since this will be the part that is on the inside which will eventually cover the head. Then that's it. The basics are already done.

Now, we need to create the appliqués. For the hood, let's create a duck's beak. Layout a duck's beak on the orange felt paper and make about two pieces of each. Sew them both and afterwards, stuff a polyester fiber filling inside it. It should look like a pillow. Then sew it on top of the hood and we're almost done. Then don't forget the eyes, cut out an eye-shaped fabric then just sew it on top of the hood.

Take note, you need not to be an expert to do this. Patience and determination will all it takes to come up with a Hooded Ducky Bath Towel for the newborn.

Question: I have searched online for years to find patterns and general information about different crafts and hobbies that I enjoy and would almost always find what I was looking for or something better.  I recently was searching for a beading pattern on BeadStyle, and found that more than one site required me to be a subscriber to their site or magazine.  Is this the wave of the future?  No more free info?  Carla K., Salt Lake City, UT

Answer: In order to monetize a website, there are things that need to be taken into consideration.  One of those things, especially for magazines, is charging their readers for the content. Other ways are selling advertising space. I have seen this trend come and go, but, with the economy in a somewhat of an unstable place, you will see websites and magazines trying all kinds of new things to boost their bottom line. One thing that I suggest is to add the word "free" when you are doing any searches. Also, try joining forums, free membership sites, etc. Sometimes the best patterns are going to come from fellow members in these sites. Try doing a search in Google or go to NING.com and do a search on their server for any membership sites that will fit your needs. These are the best ways to combat the fee based sites.
