Decoupage was derived from the French word “decouper”, which means “to cut”. Decoupage is the ability of decorating a thing by assembling and pasting colored paper cutouts onto it. Any paper, magazine cutouts, and pictures can be used for decoupage. various materials will entail different preparations. The cutouts may first be put onto a firm surface, serving as “draft” for the ultimate decoupage. If the decouper has already seen the semi-finished design, then it is all set for gluing on to the final article. After gluing the cut outs, special paints or varnishes are then brushed onto it in order to come up with desired creative effects.

With 50 percent of all marriages ending in divorce today , celebrating a marriage that lasts 50 years is something that not many couples will achieve . Not only do you have to live long enough to make it to 50 years of marriage but you have to have wanted to stay with your spouse through thick and thin for 50 years which is a feat in and of itself . If your family members are soon to be having this special anniversary, this article will discuss a few of the wonderful ways you can make that day special for them from having a special party, to putting together beautiful scrapbooking albums from several loved ones that love to do scrapbooking, and other suggestions .

Depending on the age and health of your relatives that are celebrating this huge milestone, you should throw a celebration party for them if they are up to it . Often a luncheon is a wonderful idea for older people as they will not be too exhausted as a late dinner. Putting together such a party should be done several months in advance to receive the best turnout of friends and family members that may live all over the country . At the party a few special things to do would be to blow up several photos of the couple throughout the years and place them around the room as the main decorations. If they had a particular wedding cake, try to have it replicated for the partytoo .

At the party play music that was popular 50 years ago to focus on the year they got married theme. In addition with the music and the blown up pictures it would be nice to put together a special movie for the couple that would include pictures from their lives and also many interviews with relatives that were unable to make it to the party . Showing the video at the party will be a big hit. Another idea that many couples are doing to celebrate momentous anniversaries is to have a special ceremony where they renew their wedding vows . If the couple wants to do this , this can be at the beginning of the party with someone performing the vow renewal ceremony which would be a wonderful thing to witness.

As far as gifts , a wonderful idea would be to have a few friends and relatives to create scrapbooking albums. This can take a long time to do so planning in advance is the best method to finish this gift . Get all of the loved ones in the couple's lives to write a letter or an email with a story pertaining to the couple that can be put into one scrapbook. This would be a cherished keepsake for the couple with much thought and love going into the making of it.

50 years of marriage is something the majority of people don't get to celebrate. Be certain you honor that special accomplishment by giving the happy couple a special day to remember. And hopefully one day you and your partner will make it to 50 years too .

QUESTION: Is polymer clays safe for Children?

AskAnissa: I really wanted to make jewelry, key chains and other projects from polymer clay. I am really fond of clay creations, that’s why I wanted to learn how to do it. I also wanted my kids to learn it so we could have a bonding time together but is it safe to use with children? Where can I purchase polymer clays and how do I get started? – Anonymous

Answer: Being artistic is essential in molding polymer clays because you can create animals, neckpieces, bracelets, beads, sculptures, etc. and when you have mastered the art, you can share it with your friends or establish your very own business. Creating polymer crafts is very easy and safe for children but it is not advisable for ages 3 below because they might swallow it.

Crafting polymer clays is fun and entertaining since you can depict your very own imagination into an artsy work, and the details can be visibly seen since the shape can be held well after being baked, so you can really appreciate the craft more. Crafting polymer clays is really a great technique to enhance your imagination, sculpting skills and creativity and you don’t have to be an artist do it, you just have to enjoy what you’re doing. Polymer clays can be purchased in craft shops or online at Clay Store and are available under brand names like Sculpey, Kato, Premo, and Fimo, but the most commonly used is Sculpey and Fimo since they are really soft and versatile. It is also available in a wide range of colors and sizes depending on your needs.

And to start with, all you will need is your playful hands, bead rollers, clay cutters, pasta machine if available and a regular oven. Polymer clays though they are flexible, still need to be conditioned before using. It can be prepared by kneading or by the use of a pasta machine. After molding, mixing colors and creating texture, it can be ready for baking, stay it away from direct heat and sunlight. Bake your clay pieces on a paper and not on foil for 10 minutes at approximately 215 to 275 degrees. And as a reminder, though polymer clays are labeled as non-toxic, we should still be careful and set it aside with our eating utensils. Enjoy!
